TUTOR STANDARDS

As a home-based tuition we know that we are somewhat limited when it comes to facilities. Sure, we have a comfortable air-conditioned classroom with university chairs, but we know that what we can really offer to students are highly-qualified tutors. By that, we are referring to more than just language mastery (i.e. how good is the tutor's English?), but also a tutor's capability to affect a positive learning atmosphere.

Obviously, a tutor of Ambassador Language Course will still have to have mind-bogglingly excellent command of English, with near-native speech, as if they've lived in an English-speaking country for some time. International proficiency exam preparation classes will be taught by instructors who are also high scorers* of the same exam.

Besides what's mentioned above, it's also important for tutors to also be able to engage the students with fun learning activities and inspire them to become better English speakers. They would also be using technology and the various multimedia allowed by it to create an interactive classroom experience. They therefore have to also fulfill the following standards:
- have an adequate sense of FUN - and a bit of CHARM doesn't hurt,
- care deeply about students' progress, and is willing to tackle their every question, AND
- be resourceful on activity-based classes,
- be tech-savvy, knows how to deliver class materials using technology

We realise that the most significant element in a successful language class is the tutor. So while we aren't yet able to provide the best equipment, what we are able to provide, that is, a highly qualified tutor, we will not hold back.

*Tutors teaching the IELTS classes will have to at least be at Band 7.5 level, and iBT instructors have to be at a score of 200.

OUR CURRENT TUTORS

Jason Hendro 

Most people look at Jason as the Happy-Go-Lucky guy without any care in the world. His wife, however, can confirm that it is absolutely true, and that it annoys her from time to time.

Jason’s life began, like many others, as a little baby human. He then went on became a young man of 9, when he was introduced, as was his cousins, to his first foreign song: Guantanamera. His Grandma then attempted to teach him English, but it turned out to be slightly complicated because his grandma, for the most part, didn’t speak English. She did, however, successfully teach him to say “Hau du yu du?”, you know,  instead of the much less refined “Hi”.

At the age of 11 He moved to Batam where his loving mother, who was also an English major, decided she could no longer put up with Jason’s gibberish English, and decided to teach him “proper English” – by which she meant British English with a slight Indonesian accent. She also later went on to establish a highly successful English tuition center where she could teach kids to play board games in “proper English” and explain why Princess Diana was such a cool person.

Jason, meanwhile, discovered wonderful cartoon shows like Captain Planet, The Mask, and, most importantly, Captain Simian and The Space Monkeys. He then defiantly decided to pick up the American accent – something he thinks he did pretty well.

From time to time, Jason would find himself in English competitions, where he got to talk on a stage and take home certificates, which he quietly actually secretly enjoyed.

…which also meant he never really stopped occasionally going on stages for talking-in-English purposes, not even during his time at Sanata Dharma University of Yogyakarta, where he discovered, studied for, competed in, and juried over, varsity debate competitions. 

 After University, he and his wonderful girlfriend of four years decided to stop all the nonsense and decided to get married. He used his Band 8 IELTS and his TOEFL CBT score 250 (equivalent to PBT score of 650) certificates to secure a teaching position at REAL ENGLISH, where he would teach TOEFL PBT, TOEFL IBT, IELTS Foundation, IELTS Advanced, and IELTS 7up. His student knew him as the teacher who most likely had lived in San Francisco, not that far away from the Golden Gate Bridge. They also knew him as the teacher who had a deeply-ingrained sense of cool and would, on occasion, teach proper English.

In March of 2016, after three and a half years with Real English, he decided he would finally fulfill his lifelong ambition of becoming a stay-at-home teacher/husband/dad. That’s how Ambassador Language Course got started as the “home-based English tutoring course”. He wishes, for the most part, that students of the Ambassador Language Course would enjoy their classes there, have lots of fun, and achieve their dreams, whatever they are.
