The TOEFL IBT test, pride and joy of the ETS, is arguably
the most difficult standardized English test out there. It might be a multiple
choice exam, but it’s a highly complex one and it would be foolish to hope to
achieve high scores on luck alone. Its integrated skills sections require
versatility on the students’ part in juggling between different language skills
(listening/reading/speaking/writing), something that students might
understandably get a little worried about. It isn’t really a complicated
concept, to be quite frank, as it really isn’t that uncommon to employ different
skills when using a language in real life. For instance, someone reading
something interesting on the internet might later decide to share it in a
conversation with friends. It could still be challenging for a lot of the
students, so rest assured that a lot of guidance will be provided to tackle
these questions effectively.
TOEFL IBT also consistently emphasizes on study skills, such
as note-taking or information synthesis. All this means that students couldn’t
just rely purely on their English capabilities, but also on skills necessary to
become an effective university student in an English-speaking country. What
will be important is therefore that on top of improving their language skills,
students are also encouraged to develop effective study skills.

THE TOEFL PBT CLASS at Ambassador Language Course
The TOEFL IPBT program at Ambassador is divided into three
levels:

TOEFL PBT Core (2 Months)
·
TOEFL PBT Advanced (3 Months)
The TOEFL PBT (ITP) test may not be the most difficult
standardized English tests, but it is certainly one of the most popular among
Indonesian students, and the one they are most familiar with. The test is a
multiple choice test divided into four sections: listening, structure, reading,
and writing, with writing being optional in ITP test (and therefore generally
skipped by students). Thus, TOEFL PBT classes at Ambassador English are
organized around the three compulsory sections, starting with listening and
ending with reading.
What would take center stage in a TOEFL PBT class are test-taking
strategies. Students are often unaware that in TOEFL PBT, employing the right
strategies could vastly improve the score that they will receive. This is not
to say that their language basics don’t play much role in this test, but that
due to the general format of the test, there are techniques that could be used
to vastly improve the accuracy of their answers, alleviate stress and even create
more time for them to carefully analyze questions. Thorough preparation in
these strategies would therefore be essential in a PBT preparation class.
The PBT Core class will last 2 months, more than enough to
go through all the basic PBT principles. The PBT advanced class will last a
month longer, as it covers much comprehensive strategies, and a wider language
range of English language structures.
